Escape The City – My Freedom Manifesto
I am back to work after 9 months of self discovery and career break. I have escaped the city! I am now an account manager at the cool digital agency. I wrote this in my first week at work.
Surviving Blue Mondays
Last Monday was a nightmare.
The weather was horrid (although probably not as bad as those of you affected by snow storm in the US and Canada). Commute went wrong – a man under train (I only later connected it to Blue Monday, oh 😦 ). First day at work after holidays. Busy but in a fog (all last week). Little one got ill again and refused to fall asleep until midnight… Oh Universe. Continue reading
Helping Someone This Christmas
The Christmas before I helped a homeless Big Issue vendor. I kept seeing him on my way to the office and he always looked so sad. I got in touch with the Big Issue and found out his name. I anonymously bought him a Christmas gift (some new clothes) and later helped to get a new passport. In person, whenever I’d see him, I’d buy him coffee. Continue reading
Best Meditation Apps: Happiness On The Go
I wrote about meditation before. I discovered it this year and I never looked back. I have been doing the simple one where you just focus on breathing. I then did one where you chant, loved it. And I notice the effects. It’s easier to take things easy. It’s easier to control emotions. And I feel lighter, no knots of tension, no heaviness of resistance. Continue reading
The True Colours Of Auroras
I would have never thought that auroras – which I imagined were mostly green – only appear as green when we view them with our eyes at night. Change the viewing instruments and all sorts of colours come out! How amazing is that! Look at these beautiful photos.
This reminded me that sometimes we need to remember that what we see and how we see it is only in our heads, and it’s in our power to change both how we view and how we feel about any given situation.
Also in our quest for new, unusual, amazing discoveries, travel is an obvious way of finding them. Yet change of perspective, revisiting, remixing the things and experiences already around us, for a true nomad can have a very similar effect.
Today or tomorrow, find the most mundane thing that you can see, and uncover its hidden colours – make it become amazing and new and beautiful through either a change of angle with which you view it or the way you think about it.
Stay happy.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To Happiness
I’ve just finished reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe, and I must say these are among the best books I’ve ever read. Continue reading
Art by Offenders, Secure Patients and Detainees
I have recently visited, finally, an exhibition at the Southbank centre in London called ‘Art by Offenders, Secure Patients and Detainees’. In Russian language, there is a saying which means something like ‘Never say never to begging or prison’. Everything can happen, sometimes by an unfortunate twist of fate. In fact, the founder of the Koestler trust who organised the exhibition was a political detainee at some point. Mental health issues are as likely. Continue reading
Strategies For Happiness: Simplification
I love mornings like this. When the morning air is crisp and full of possibilities. When you wake up grateful for having another day and full of energy to make things happen, and hope, and in general are unstoppable. When you want to get things done.
Continue readingLiving In Holland vs UK
So I have been promising this for a while. A post about Holland and why I decided to leave after 6 months. I intentionally left some time to reflect on the experience and also to allow my grey matter to distil the experiences lived and the lessons learned into a structured, interesting post. Gosh, you are truly getting your money’s worth here! 🙂 Continue reading
Alternative Time
Great quote on another positivity/ happiness blog I follow, Positively Positive, today:
Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dutch Erwten Soup Recipe
I am a big soup fan. A bowl of well made, hearty, healthy soup always makes me happy. During my recent Dutch escape, I discovered erwten soup which was immediately added to my fave soups list. Perfect for chilli days, it’s not an easy one to make due to long cooking time, but I may attempt it nevertheless, because it’s delicious. Here is a recipe. If all fails, I’ll look for Dutch cafes or shops in London, they should have it. Have a nice day! Have some soup 🙂
