Biggest happiness lifehack – cure your fears

I am reading this awesome book, Fear Cure by Lissa Rankin. If you want to work on overcoming your fears, it’s a perfect guide on how to do it. Can’t believe I’ve been reading her posts on Positively Positive and never checked out her book!

This quote in particular stood out:

In order to avoid change and its accompanying loss, we are willing to tolerate stagnation, to let our souls die slow deaths in order to avoid uncertainty and loss. Anything that requires risk becomes unacceptable.

I re-read it several times like a prayer. If there is a big project, step or new path in your life that you know you must take but some super powerful force is holding you back and you can’t understand what it is, yet loathe yourself for lack of progress, here it is.

Change = uncertainty + loss = ego/ amygdala/ ‘lizard brain’) chooses stagnation and chooses risk averse path for you. You stay in your comfort zone forever.

What do you choose – mediocre familiarity when you never try and your big dreams become never-to-be’s or life changing risk taking when you can fail and be laughed at and rejected but equally can see your dreams come true? She who does not risk, does not drink champagne.

Easy to say, I know. Working on it…
