Strategies For Happiness: Simplification

I love mornings like this. When the morning air is crisp and full of possibilities. When you wake up grateful for having another day and full of energy to make things happen, and hope, and in general are unstoppable. When you want to get things done.

Yesterday I almost caught a cold. I was unwell and had sore throat. Took the herbal medicine I found at Holland & Barrett, put myself in bed and I think I beat it. Yes!

Nothing like victory over germs to make one happy.

This image and quote (below) from The Happiness Project summed it up really well for me this morning. Sparkling star and a melting snowflake indeed.

In terms of strategies for happiness, I noticed that I have used simplification a lot lately. I love simplification. I started doing things in 3s, eg I only look at 3 links when I search for or research something – allows me to avoid procrastination and information overload, also saves lots of time.

I stop myself from unnecessary purchases by simplifying the decision making criteria – do you really need this thing or are you just overcomplicating, is the question I ask myself.

I installed a new calendar app which everyone is raving about – Cal from Any.do. And it’s prettier than my native phone app but it’s not any simpler to use, in fact it’s more complicated. I don’t care what everyone says, I don’t like it. Until there is a simpler to use app, than what I am using already, I am not sold.

Simpler is happier. Try this strategy out this weekend. Simplify something. Then share with us here in the comments.
