I mentioned this book before – it is how I discovered Wayne Dyer. It came recommended by Tim Ferriss. I don’t follow Tim, but occasionally get sent links to his podcasts or blog posts, and one of his posts that I read mentioned this book.
Kamal tells his story of “the night of the soul” (a crisis) and describes love-based approaches and techniques that worked to get him out of the abyss. What he writes about is not rocket science, in fact, his message is super simple – it’s on the cover of the book. Yet, it is the message that so many of us desperately need to hear – to really hear it, deep down.
As you know, my realisation that self-love is one of the main drivers of happiness was sudden – brought on by a major burnout. It was a simple, yet profound realisation that I felt with every atom of my being. Wow, I do not love myself at all!
It changed everything. I realised that if I don’t love myself, I can not truly love others. I can not trust. I can not be fearless. I can not live fully and realise my potential. Without self-love, all I have is a colourless, limited, boring, fear- and worry-filled life. Loving myself every day, every moment, taking decisions from the place of self-love became my practice.
I now do Kamal’s simple I LOVE MYSELF meditation daily, I ask the question below before taking an important decision and cultivating self-love is one of my 3 goals for this year.
