I found this image ages ago in one of Nat Geo magazines, I think! It was with me and inspired my practice for years. The serene, soft gaze of Buddha guided me in my quest for inner peace, compassion and universal, conscious love.

I cut it out without checking what it was. Only recently I have finally found that this is a picture of Boddhisattva Padmapani, one of Buddha’s earlier reincarnations. The one with the lotus. I also found that the painting is from the stunning Ajanta caves in India. My local library happened to have the beautifully illustrated The Ajanta Caves by Benoy K. Behl which I am reading now. What a beautiful place it must be to visit…

Yes, I would love to go to India and see these places. Somehow I don’t think I’ll make it. My wife thinks everywhere outside the M25 is dangerous!

In my experiences spouses rarely share travel interests. My husband loves Florida and I love Spain. He loves lounging on the beach, I spend days sightseeing. If I want to go somewhere and he does not, I don’t wait for him, I just go, myself or with friends or on a tour. If you really want to go, you will find a way 😉

But most importantly what I am realising this year is that one does not really need to go anywhere or far to find what they are looking for (novelty, awe, self discovery, joy). It’s all here. Sometimes a trip to the library and a book about a place we want to go to is good enough or at least a good enough first step 😊

Funny you should say that. I am finding exactly the same. Exactly the same!
